Stalder an All-American for TCU men’s tennis
Newport Harbor High alumnus Reese Stalder has earned All-American honors for Texas Christian University men’s tennis after he and doubles partner Jerry Lopez advanced to the NCAA Division 1 doubles semifinals over the Memorial Day weekend.
Stalder and Lopez lost to Georgia’s top-seeded duo of Jan Zielinski and Robert Loeb, 6-3, 7-6 (4), in the NCAA semifinal match Sunday at the Dan Magill Tennis Center in Athens, Ga.
Stalder, a sophomore, and Lopez, a senior, were ranked No. 25 in the nation as a doubles team. Both earned All-American honors.
Stalder helped the Horned Frogs go 22-5 this season and advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA team championship for the second time in three years. They won their second straight Big 12 regular season and tournament championships.
Stalder, who reached the CIF Individuals singles title match two years ago as a senior at Newport Harbor, was 24-12 in doubles and 16-12 in singles this season for TCU.
