Costa Mesa girls’ volleyball falls to top-seeded La Reina
Costa Mesa High’s run in the CIF Southern Section Division 5 girls’ volleyball playoffs ended at home on Thursday.
Top-seeded Thousand Oaks La Reina swept the Mustangs 25-13, 25-21, 25-20 in the second round.
Michelle Shaffer had 19 kills and six service aces to lead the Regents (27-6). Ava Hudson added 11 kills and four blocks, and Bethanie Blaise handed out 21 assists in the win over the Mustangs (19-7).
Led by senior outside hitter Courtney Moore, Costa Mesa made its second consecutive postseason appearance. The Mustangs finished second in the Orange Coast League at 8-2.
