Week 10 High School Football Preview: Costa Mesa vs. Saddleback
When/where: Thursday, 7 p.m. at Segerstrom High
Key Mustangs: Sr. QB-TE-OLB Ty Muir; Jr. RB-CB Brandon Gonzalez; Sr. G-DE Angel Valle
Key Roadrunners: Sr. WR Jacob Roa; Sr. QB Jonathan De Leon; Sr. RB David Pedroza
Breakdown: Costa Mesa (3-6, 0-4 in league) and Saddleback (1-7, 0-4) will enter their season finale winless in Orange Coast League action. If last season was any indication, both teams should have a lot of pride to play for on Thursday. The Mustangs notched their only win of the 2016 season in their final game. It allowed Costa Mesa’s coaching staff to say that the team had gone through all of the offseason and training camp as a team that was 1-0. That psychological edge, the notion that good things are on the horizon, is what both teams are playing for in this one. The Mustangs followed up by winning three of their first four games this year, but injuries have decimated them since. Quarterback Ben Swanson and middle linebacker Jack Perez both missed last game due to knee injuries and they are out again, Costa Mesa coach Glen Fisher said. Ty Muir will make his second career appearance at quarterback.
