High School Girls’ Basketball Roundup: Alvarez’s 18 points not enough to give Newport Harbor first win

Junior guard Lexi Alvarez scored 18 points with four assists and four steals, but the Newport Harbor High girls’ basketball team is still looking for its first win after a 61-42 defeat to Northwood in the Corona del Mar Tip-off Tournament on Friday.
The Sailors (0-3) topped their previous season-high total of 32 points scored, which they had posted in their tournament opener against Tustin.
Newport Harbor’s Dessie Quinonez had seven points and five rebounds. Willa Rath added six points, eight rebounds and three steals, while Chloe Swanson also grabbed seven rebounds.
