High School Girls’ Basketball Roundup: CdM’s Bruening scores 22 points in loss to Northwood

Junior center Tatiana Bruening scored 22 points, but the Corona del Mar High girls’ basketball team fell to Pacific Coast League rival Northwood 42-33 in a CdM Tip-off Tournament game on Thursday afternoon.
The Sea Kings (0-3) were tied with the Timberwolves 26-26 after three quarters, but senior guard Erin Matsutsuyu scored 12 of her game-high 29 points in the fourth quarter to lead Northwood (1-2) to the win.
Meghan Jordan had five points for CdM.
Dana Hills 58, Newport Harbor 18
Junior Lexi Alvarez had six points and five steals to lead the Sailors (0-2) in Thursday’s CdM Tip-Off Tournament game.
Newport Harbor sophomore Chloe Swanson added three points and seven rebounds.
Glendora 91, Los Amigos 11
Junior Maria Andrade scored four points with five rebounds and two blocks for the Lobos in a Fullerton Tournament game on Thursday.
Kathleen Nguyen also had a three-pointer for Los Amigos, which fell to 0-2 in the tournament.
Sage Hill 62, San Juan Hills 47
Senior shooting guard Kate Knollenberg led the Lightning with 17 points in the team’s second win of the CdM Tip-off Tournament on Thursday night.
Sage Hill sophomore point guard Trinity Cha scored 15 points, while freshman center Emily Elliott had 14 points.
Sage Hill (2-1) plays Tustin at 2:30 p.m. at the Laguna Hills Community Center to conclude the tournament on Saturday.
