Nate Goellrich has stepped down from a position at Estancia High that he will have a say in who is his successor.
Goellrich said he resigned as Estancia’s baseball coach to focus on his role as an athletic director at the school and to spend more time with his family.
Goellrich led the Eagles for six seasons, posting an 86-76 overall record and a 52-38 mark in the Orange Coast League.
Estancia finished 16-13 overall and in third place in league at 9-6 this year. The Eagles made the CIF Southern Section playoffs for the fourth time under his watch this past season, losing to Los Angeles Windward 6-5 in a Division 5 wild-card game at home.
“This was a very tough decision for me to make,” said Goellrich, whose best finish in league with the Eagles came in his first year in 2012, when they placed second at 12-3. “I have been blessed to have two great principals to work for [in] Dr. Kirk Bauermeister, who hired me six years ago, and now [current principal] Mike Halt. The great thing is I will still be around and involved in the program as the athletic director.
“The program has come along way these six years. We grew in size every year and we had a lot of great team and personal accomplishments on the field. Our facility is much improved from when I was hired and the parent support has never been greater than it was this past year. Off the field is where I’m most proud. [The] team GPA was 3.5 this year, [marking the] fourth year in a row it was over 3.0. Our players have been a positive influence in the community.”
