FRESNO — Sophomore Bentley Wilson ran the Division 2 5K meet in 15 minutes 59.48 seconds, good for 13th, as the Sailors took 18th at Woodward Park in Fresno on Saturday.

Newport Harbor returns home next week for the Orange County Championships at Irvine Regional Park in Orange on Saturday.

GIRLS’ CROSS COUNTRY

Clovis Invitational

FRESNO — Junior Emily Bacon finished 27th in 18 minutes 36.35 seconds, helping the Sailors place 19th in the Division 2 5K race at Woodward Park in Fresno on Saturday.

Newport Harbor’s other top runners were Emma Buggeln (67th, 19:11.03) and Erin Barth (81st, 19:22.84).

The Sailors compete at the Orange County Championships at Irvine Regional Park in Orange next Saturday.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Newport Rib Classic

The Eagles split their two contests, losing to La Habra, 17-2, and beating Saddleback, 17-6, at Costa Mesa High on Saturday.

Estancia’s Kyle Fitzgerald finished with four goals and Jason Chesmore contributed three against Saddleback. Goalie John Leal made four saves and Dione Howard three.

In the first game against La Habra, Chesmore and Eli Sperling each scored a goal for the Eagles (5-10).
