Senior Jennifer Martin finished with a hat trick for the No. 13-ranked Lions in a Golden State Athletic Conference match at home on Saturday.
Vanguard, which didn’t need goalkeepers Lauren Terry and Kaycee Smith to make a save, shut out its ninth opponent of the season.
Nicole Dunn had four assists and a goal for Vanguard (9-1-1, 2-1-0 in conference).
Janell Koide, Rayven Hernandez, Madison Cody, Asia Kleinmeyer and Kristyn Chavez each scored a goal for the Lions.
Vanguard travels to face San Diego Christian for a match at Cuyamaca College in El Cajon on Wednesday at noon.

Vanguard def. San Diego Christian
Charlotte Heerlyn recorded 25 kills to help lead the No. 18-ranked Lions to a 25-15, 25-21, 25-14 Golden State Athletic Conference victory Saturday.
Jessica Neves had 18 kills, Jessica Chase had 13 kills and Taylor Jackson added 11 kills for Vanguard (17-6, 6-2 in conference).
Kelly Heenan, a Newport Harbor High product, led the Lions with 18 digs, Amanda Sappington and Lauren Hays had 11 digs each.
San Diego Christian is 6-9, 3-5.

Freshman Brian Torres scored twice for the Lions in a Golden State Athletic Conference match at home on Saturday.
Luis Valdivia, Brian Pautasso and Jesus Fregoso had a goal apiece for Vanguard (6-4, 2-1 in conference).
The Lions play San Diego Christian College at Cuyamaca College in El Cajon on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.

STANFORD — Freshman Matt Skinner recorded a hat trick for the No. 9-ranked Anteaters in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation game at No. 2 Stanford on Saturday.
Alan Robertson had two goals for UCI (10-4, 0-2 in MPSF), while Ryan Warde added a goal.
The Anteaters open the SoCal Tournament at UCLA against UC San Diego next Saturday at 9:25 a.m.

Cowboy Southern Dunes Collegiate Invitational
MARICOPA, Ariz. — The Anteaters shot a two-round total of 593, good enough to share sixth place Northern Colorado on the first day of the tournament at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club on Saturday.
UCI enters the final round on Sunday 27 strokes back of the leader, Idaho. Play resumes at 7:30 a.m.
UCI senior Pete Fernandez is in third place at three-under-par 141 (71, 70). He’s four strokes back of Idaho’s Jared du Toit and Arizona State’s Mathias Schjoelberg, who are tied for first.
