Newport Harbor def. Laguna Beach

NEWPORT BEACH — Kasey Thompson had 18 kills to help the Sailors to a 20-25, 25-19, 28-26, 25-15 nonleague win Thursday.

Cinnamon Sary had 35 assists, four kills and three blocks for Newport Harbor (3-0).

Alex Holbrook had seven kills and four aces, while Holly Patrick and Claire Castillo had five kills each. Tatum Norton added 14 digs.

The Sailors play host to Corona del Mar in the Battle of the Bay Saturday. The junior varsity match is at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity match is scheduled to begin at 5:45 p.m.

IRVINE — Zoe Kreitenberg had 11 kills and three blocks for the Lightning, but the Timberwolves won the nonleague match, 31-29, 26-24, 23-25, 25-22, Thursday.

Maggie Danner had 10 kills, Holland McKenna had nine kills, three aces and 13 digs and Claudia Noto had 14 digs for Sage Hill (2-2).

COSTA MESA —The Eagles’ Cassie Stevenson shot four-over-par 39 to earn medalist honors in an Orange Coast League opener at Costa Mesa Golf & Country Club’s Mesa Linda course Thursday.

Frankie Thorpe shot a 49 for Estancia (1-8, 1-0 in league).

Sage Hill 235, Laguna Beach 246

ALISO VIEJO — Erin Hong shot seven-over-par 42 to earn medalist honors for the Lightning in the nonleague match at Aliso Viejo Country Club Thursday.

It was the fourth time Hong medaled this season. Angela Choi (45) and Stephanie Cho (47) also scored for Sage Hill (4-1).

FIELD HOCKEY

Newport Harbor 0, Glendora 0

GLENDORA — Senior goalie Andie Ward made 10 saves for the Sailors in the nonleague road match Thursday.

Stopper Courtney McIntosh and sweeper Kellie Conant were singled out for strong defensive play by Coach Amanda Boyer.

The Sailors (1-1-2) return to action Saturday in the quarterfinals of the Otay Ranch Tournament in Chula Vista.
