Cardenas lauded

UC Irvine senior forward Enrique Cardenas, who had three goals in two victories last weekend, has been named Big West Conference Offensive Player of the Year in men’s soccer.

Cardenas had two goals and put seven of his 10 shots on goal in the Anteaters’ 3-2 double-overtime win at Wisconsin on Friday.

In a 4-2 triumph at Illinois-Chicago on Sunday, he had a goal and helped create another on which he was not credited with an assist. His goal Sunday was a game-winner.

Cardenas’ five goals share the team lead. The Anteaters (6-0 for the first time in school history) are ranked No. 5, also tops in program history.
