Misty May-Treanor lands on Wheaties box
Misty May-Treanor closed out her remarkable career with a third consecutive Olympic gold medal. The former Newport Harbor High standout is also ending it by landing on the iconic cereal box, as it was announced Thursday that she is featured on a limited edition Wheaties box.
Wheaties, known as the breakfast of champions, is honoring the lifetime accomplishments of two gold-medal winning athletes, May-Treanor and swimmer Michael Phelps.
May-Treanor won the Olympic gold medal for an unprecedented third straight time in beach volleyball with partner Kerri Walsh Jennings at the London Olympics.
May-Treanor won on every level, two state titles (1992, 1994) at Newport Harbor, an undefeated national championship season at Long Beach State (1998) and the most victories (107) as a pro in beach volleyball.
“My message to athletes everywhere is to never give up, ever,†May-Treanor said in a release. “If someone says you can’t do it, try harder.â€
The limited-edition Wheaties packages will be available nationally beginning next month.
