Best of the West tournament
POWAY — Corona del Mar High swept through its three matches in pool play Friday at Alliant University to advance to the Gold Division of the 32-team tournament.
The Sea Kings topped Torrey Pines, 25-21, 25-13, beat Granite Bay, 25-11, 25-14, then bested Huntington Beach, 26-24, 25-18.
Parker Brown had 20 combined kills, while Nick Curci had 46 assists in the three matches.
Spencer Hayley, Brennan Anderson and Joe Ctvrtlik also stood out for CdM, which plays today at the Epic Volleyball Club in Poway.

Best of the West tournament
POWAY — Newport Harbor High won two of three pool-play matches Friday at Aliant University to advance to the 16-team Gold Division, contested today at the Epic Volleyball Club.
The Sailors defeated Servite, 25-22, 18-25, 15-9, behind 14 kills from Cody Caldwell and nine from Kevin Rakestraw.
A 25-16, 25-23 win over Santa Monica followed, before Westlake topped the Tars, 27-25, 21-25, 15-12, to win the pool.
Caldwell had 22 kills and Connor Leggett had 33 assists against Westlake.
Caldwell totaled 42 kills and Leggett had 69 cumulative assists. Ian Sequeira had 23 digs in the three matches.

Loara def. Estancia
ANAHEIM — Kyle Treiger had five kills for the Eagles in the nonleague match that Loara won, 25-12, 25-13, 25-20 Friday.
Estancia (0-4) plays host to El Dorado on Monday.

BASEBALL
Sage Hill 13, Whitney 2
CERRITOS – Senior Jack Heffron did not allow a hit or run and struck out 13 in six innings in the Lightning’s Academy League opener Friday.
Heffron also went four for five with three runs batted in.
Allen Brown went two for five with two runs for Sage Hill (1-4, 1-0 in league).
Brandon Zellner had three doubles and three RBIs.

BOYS’ TENNIS
Estancia 13, Los Amigos 5
COSTA MESA – Sophomore Robert Marrone swept in No. 1 singles play in the Eagles’ nonleague match Friday.
Joseph Kaidane and Erik Cerros swept in No.3 doubles for Estancia (2-4). Matt Thomas and Dave Cornelius swept in No. 2 doubles.
The Eagles play at Orange Monday at 3 p.m.

Capo Valley Relays
CAPISTRANO VALLEY — Corona del Mar qualified first in two events Friday at Capistrano Valley High.
Ari Marks, Garrett Larson, John Kim and Matt Berry qualified first in the 200-yard medley relay in 1 minute, 39.29 seconds.
Marks, Blake Motal, Hayden Leach and Christian Garkani qualified first in the 200 backstroke relay in 1:41.41.
Marks, Leach, Evan Ramsey and Motal qualified second in the 300 freestyle relay in 2:15.03.
Kim, Bruce Bearer, Austin Beyaoju and Larson qualified second in the 200 breaststroke relay in 1:57.57.
Berry, Motal, Bearer and Garkani qualified first in the 400 free relay in 3:19.59.
