IRVINE — Newport Harbor High senior Marty Taylor swept the shot put and the discus, posting state-best marks this season in each event on Saturday at Irvine High.
Taylor’s winning mark in the shot was 60 feet, 1 1/2 inch. His winning discus throw was 179-10.
The Sailors’ Ramsey Hufford was fourth in the shot put (51-7).

IRVINE — Newport Harbor High senior Peri Howser won the pole vault with a clearance of 11 feet on Saturday at Irvine High.
The Sailors’ Natalie Ward was seventh in the 300-meter hurdles in 46.52 seconds.

Best of the West Tournament
POWAY — Corona del Mar High lost two of three matches in the 16-team Gold Division playoffs on Saturday at Epic Volleyball Club.
San Clemente topped the Sea Kings, 25-17, 25-12, in the opening match, then Clovis defeated CdM, 25-23, 25-23.
The Sea Kings topped Westlake, 25-19, 17-25, 15-11 to improve to 3-4.
Ryan Moss had eight kills in the win, and teammates Brian Clayton (six kills and three blocks) and Tommy Brooks (six kills and two blocks) also led the way for the Sea Kings.
Matt Ctvrtlik had 13 assists and Brent Schisler had 11 for CdM against Westlake.

SANTA ANA — Garrett Farthing had one goal and two assists for the visiting Sailors in the nonleague game Saturday.
Kole Escher, Riley Peterson and Ritter Hagadorn also scored for the Tars (1-4), who received 14 saves from Christian Ruelas.
