Newport Beach man found dead off Balboa Island
A Newport Beach man was found dead in the waters off Balboa Island, county coroner officials said Tuesday evening.
The body of Robert LeGallee, 73, was found near North Bay Front and Collins Avenue, according to a coroner press release.
Earlier that afternoon, Newport firefighters and lifeguards had responded to that location after receiving a call about a possible drowning, said Jennifer Schulz, Fire Department spokeswoman.
A swimmer reported seeing a man in the water between a boat and dock. The swimmer and another person then pulled the man’s body, later identified by the corner as LeGallee, onto a dock. About 4:30 p.m., authorities determined that he was deceased, Schulz said.
An autopsy is scheduled later this week to aid in determining LeGallee’s cause of death, according to the coroner press release.
