Bowden wins a top honor

After helping the Ocean View High girls’ soccer team get to heights previously unknown, junior midfielder Mikhaila Bowden was rewarded with her second straight Golden West League Offensive Most Valuable Player award.

Bowden helped the Seahawks to second in league and the team advanced to the CIF Southern Section Division V quarterfinals, the furthest the program had gone.

Bowden was joined on the first team all-league by seniors Andrea Ecker, Rachel Drolet and Kara Pederson. Ecker and Pederson will be playing Saturday in the Southern California Soccer Coaches Assn. Senior All-Star game at 3 p.m. at St. Margaret’s High.

Ocean View’s Aleanna Vargas, Amira Shweyk and Katilin Katsuki made second-team all-league.

Ocean View finished the year 14-8-3.

Sunset League: Edison, Marina and Fountain Valley combined for five first-team All-Sunset League selections for girls’ soccer.

For the third-place Chargers, seniors Taylor Broderick, Brianna Webster and Alison Hensley made first-team status. Senior Kelly Mitsumori earned a first-team nod from Marina, as did McKenna Henry from Fountain Valley. Marina and Fountain Valley tied for fifth place.

On the second team were Angelisa Cortez, Rachel Larson and Karley Wester (Edison), Genessee Banks and Jordan O’Brian (Marina), and Jessica Parker and Madison Gomez (Fountain Valley).

Sea View League: Huntington Beach senior Alexa Georgatsos made first-team honors. Fellow seniors Shelby Fischer and Nicole Camarillo were second-team honorees.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Sunset League: Edison went from worst to first in the Sunset League and was rewarded when it came time for all-league selections.

Senior midfielder Kyle Ball was selected league MVP for the Chargers, who advanced to the CIF Southern Section Division I semifinals. He was joined on the first team by senior Adam Blaus, juniors Mitchell Alvarez, Baijj Chela and Tyler Smith and sophomore goalie Scott Campbell.

Making the first team from fourth-place Fountain Valley were sophomore Ethan Morrow and senior Rafael Contrares-Geck.

Marina, which finished in fifth place, had senior Andrew Sullivan as a first-team honoree.

Second-team honorees included Jake Little, David Mussena and Sadallah Shehadi (Edison), Derek Huymen and Wade Sias (Fountain Valley), and Sean Atwood and Trevor Hatchard (Marina).

Sea View League: Huntington Beach senior Alex Baker and junior Max Talbert were named first-team All-Sea View League selections for boys’ soccer.

They were joined on the second team by senior Cameron Murphy and sophomore Thomas Harer.

Huntington Beach advanced to the second round of the Division I playoffs after finishing in third place in league. The Oilers lost to eventual champion JSerra.

Golden West League: Senior Jim Amador was the lone first-team All-Golden West League selection from Ocean View High for boys’ soccer.

Amador was joined on the second team by senior Pedro Vasquez and junior Erik Sanchez.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Sunset League: Edison High seniors Danielle Warde and goalie Clair Babinski, along with sophomore Alys Williams, were named first-team All-Sunset League selections.

Second-team all-league selections included Edison’s Haley Kunert, and the Chargers’ Abby Oshjiro, Jessica Becker and Melissa Balding made the third team.

Warde was also named a first-team All-CIF Southern Section Division I selection, with Williams on the second team and Babinski on the third team.

Edison finished third in league and advanced to the CIF Southern Section Division I quarterfinals.

Also on the all-league team were Fountain Valley senior Danica Fascella and junior Marisa Young (first team), and the Barons’ Lindsey Catron and Kayla Robert (second team). Fascella was also named a third-team All-CIF selection.

Marina had senior Coral Koller and sophomore Karin Jester on the All-Sunset League second team. Vikings goalie Madison Clark and fellow senior Leslie Schwene made the third team.

Sea View League: Huntington Beach High junior Cailend Robbins was named the Sea View League’s Most Valuable Goalie.

Robbins was joined on the first team for all-league by senior Alexis D’Asaro and junior Ashley Towers. Oilers junior Alyssa Katreeb and freshman Samantha Preston made the second team.

D’Asaro was also named a third-team All-CIF selection.

Huntington Beach finished second in league.

Golden West League: Ocean View High junior Holland McNabb and senior Christina Corsetti were first-team all-league selections. Their teammates, junior Jaylin McCandless and freshman Brynne McNabb, made the second team.

Ocean View finished third in league.
