Seniors’ Legacy Ball is on March 26

Laguna Beach Seniors’ fourth annual Legacy Ball will be at [seven-degrees] from 5 to 10 p.m. March 26. Al Roberts and Ken Jillson will be the 2010 Legacy Award Recipients for their decades-long commitment to the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Honorary chairman for the event is James Bermingham, vice president of Montage Hotels & Resorts, and managing director of Montage Laguna Beach.

Entertainment will be provided by South Coast Swing with Bree Burgess Rosen and No Square Theatre. The attire is “vintage formal.”

Contestants sought for senior pageant

The Ms. Senior Orange County preliminary pageant will be April 9 and 10. The top three winners will automatically be contestants in the state pageant in August. The Orange County pageant will be at the Buena Park Senior Center in Buena Park.

Contestants are asked to model, perform and share some life experiences. To enter, a contestant must be 60 or older and a U.S. citizen. For more information, e-mail Orange County Pageant Director Pamela Wheeler at [email protected] with “Pageant” in the subject line.

Wheeler was the winner of the Ms. Senior Orange County Pageant 2008. The Orange County pageant is one of five preliminary pageants in California. Ms. Senior Orange County in 1993 was Elaine Barnard from Laguna Beach.

Intrepid Travelers plan museum trip

The Intrepid Travelers will take a bus trip to the Bowers Museum to see a photo exhibit on Oceania, with masterworks from the three cultural regions of Micronesia, Melanesia and Polynesia. The March 24 trip leaves from the bus depot at 9:30 a.m. Adult prices are $12, seniors $9, including bus fee plus gallery entrance fee. The trip returns to Laguna between 3 and 3:30 p.m.

Free genealogy lecture is Monday

The community is invited to attend a free lecture on genealogy taught by Collyn Youngman, who has taught several workshops and classes for members and prospective members of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The lecture on online searches will be at the Susi Q Center, 380 Third St., from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday. To sign up, call (949) 497-2441.

Sally’s Fund expands ride services

Sally’s Fund has expanded transportation services for Laguna Beach seniors by making individual and group rides available to seniors who use the Community and Senior Center, according to city officials. In the past Sally’s Fund provided rides to the senior lunch program; the expanded service will offer seniors rides to classes, programs and activities at the center in addition to the lunch.
