FOUNTAIN VALLEY — Kohl Jones had 18 kills to help the Eagles to a 24-26, 26-24, 25-13, 27-25 nonleague season-opening win Wednesday.

Jim Nelson had eight kills, while Tyler Sullivan had 34 assists for Estancia, which will play host to Saddleback Friday at 4 p.m.

SANTA ANA — Junior Marcus Kiel shot one-over-par 37 in the Sailors’ season opener Wednesday.

Newport Harbor’s Travis Russell and Zach Eddy shot 39, followed by Carter Norris (41) and Eli Gomez (42).

Aliso Niguel’s Mark Jensma shot 36 to earn medalist honors.

The Sailors play Foothill today at Big Canyon Country Club at 3 p.m.

LAGUNA NIGUEL — Sophomore Jake Knapp shot par 35 to earn medalist honors for the Eagles in the Orange Coast League opener for both teams Wednesday at El Niguel Country Club.

Ryan Burns (43), Jake Stone (45), Spencer Robets (45), and Aaron Wood (47) also scored for the Eagles (0-2, 0-1 in league).

The Eagles play host to Millikan High today at Costa Mesa Golf & Country Club.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Mater Dei 10, Sage Hill 8

NEWPORT BEACH — Alex Koeberle, Dennis Cirit and Andrew Kurzweil each won two sets in singles play for the Lightning in a nonleague match at The Tennis Club Wednesday.

Coach A.G. Longoria said Sage Hill and Mater were tied, 3-3, after the first round and 6-6 after the second round. In the final round, the Monarchs took four of the six sets, handing the Lightning their second straight loss.

Sage Hill plays host to the sixth annual Lightning Invitational at The Tennis Club Friday and Saturday.
