Chargers win league title

The torrential rains were gone and the sun came out to shine on the Edison High boys’ soccer team. With a 1-0 victory over Fountain Valley on Feb. 10, Edison (19-4-2, 9-1) claimed the Sunset League championship.

Beating all odds with tremendous team play throughout this year’s campaign, the Edison boys again showed their character with a strong team performance in a hard-earned victory over cross-town rival Fountain Valley. After being held scoreless during the first half, Edison came on strong the second half with captain Adam Black making strong runs up the right flank causing chaos in the Fountain Valley defense. Edison continuously pressured the Barons, keeping play on their half of the field for most of the second half.

Midfielder Kyle Ball finally put the game away with five minutes to go. Tyler Smith’s long throw-in into the box caused some confusion in the defense and Ball tapped the ball in for the winning goal.
