Marina High senior Brendan Holmes has broken the Vikings’ career scoring record for boys’ basketball with his career total of 2,015 points.
The Dominican University-bound Holmes moved past former record holder Cherokee Parks, who starred at Duke and also played in the NBA. Parks had 1,997 points.
Holmes also has 403 career three-pointers, which moved him past Casey Jacobsen (Stanford and NBA) and into second place all-time in the CIF Southern Section record books. Chad Bickley of Valley Christian of Santa Maria holds the career record with 507.
Holmes has scored a team-high 22.0 points per game this year for the Vikings (16-9), with 94 three-pointers. Marina finished third in the Sunset League but handed league champion Los Alamitos its only league loss, 67-66, on Jan. 22.
Holmes and the Vikings opened the Division II-AA playoffs Wednesday night at Canyon Springs of Moreno Valley.
Marina is the No. 16-seeded team in the division.
