CORONA DEL MAR — The Sea Kings nearly won their season opener, but the Monarchs converted on a penalty kick with three minutes left Tuesday.

Paige Sigband scored on an assist from Nikki Flynn in the 25th minute for the Sea Kings. In the 65th minute, CdM went up, 2-1, after Alexandra Reinach scored on Hayley Raguse’s assist.

Segerstrom 2, Sage Hill 0

NEWPORT COAST — Paige Krueger recorded six saves for the Lightning in their season opener Tuesday.

Sage Hill will play against Costa Mesa at Estancia High Thursday at 5 p.m.

ROLLING HILLS ESTATES — Hannah Speer had five goals, 13 steals and two assists for the Mustangs in the nonleague game Tuesday.

Sydney Rosello added two goals and three steals, while Nicole Tfaye had two steals and two assists for Costa Mesa.

WESTMINSTER — Junior Andrew Albers scored 17 points to help the Mustangs advance to the consolation semifinals of the Aztec Shootout at La Quinta Tuesday.

Senior Adam Hulisz added 11 points. The Mustangs will face Laguna Beach today at 6:30 p.m.

Albers and senior Brian Waldron scored nine points apiece for the Mustangs in their 75-33 loss to Marina Monday.

Bolsa Grande 39

CORONA DEL MAR — Junior Alex Morton had 20 points, 19 rebounds and two steals for the Sailors in their season opener, a pool-play game of the CdM tournament Tuesday.

Senior Coleen Mead had 10 points, five assists, four steals and four rebounds, while Mandy Legault had six rebounds, four points, three steals and one assist for Newport Harbor.

The Sailors face Laguna Beach today at 6 p.m.

CORONA DEL MAR — Carolina vanderVelde had 14 points and Katie Bergsma added 11 for the Sea Kings in the opener of pool play at the CdM tournament Monday.
