WALNUT — Senior Melanie Powers won the Division III girls’ race and led the Sea Kings to the title against 17 teams Friday at Mt. San Antonio College.

Powers finished in 18 minutes, 1 second, while Marissa Cummings was 13th in 19:18 and Ashlee Powers followed in 15th in 19:31, Kristina Funahashi was 18th (19:38).

Austin Barvin finished 14th in 16:18 in the boys’ race. CdM was seventh out of 20 teams.

NEWPORT BEACH — Samantha Stalder, Rebecca Arnold and Blake Bakkila won two sets each in singles in the Sunset League match Friday.

Arnold nearly beat the Griffins’ No. 1 singles player, Tricia Mar, who won, 7-6 (8-6). Newport Harbor’s No. 1 doubles team of Ricki Archie and Christina Young swept and have not lost a set in league, improving to 17-0.

The Sailors improved to 11-3, 7-0 in league.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Sage Hill def. Whitney

NEWPORT COAST — Zoe Kreitenberg had nine kills and four blocks to help lead the Lightning to a 25-17, 25-18, 25-16 Academy League win Friday.

Tess Wohrle added seven kills and three aces for Sage Hill (9-9, 5-1 in league).

BOYS’ WATER POLO

GARDEN GROVE — Charlie Umansky scored seven goals for the Eagles in the nonleague game Friday.

Preston Schow and Derek Andrews added two goals each. Conner Graham had 14 saves for Estancia (17-7).
