Peters receives accolade
Newport Harbor High product Kasey Peters, a senior quarterback at Rocky Mountain College, has been named NAIA Offensive Player of the Week after a prolific performance Saturday.
He was also named Frontier Conference Player of the Week for the second straight week.
Peters, a 6-foot-3, 200-pounder, completed 40 of 47 passes for 471 yards and six touchdowns and rushed for another touchdown in the Battlin’ Bears’ 52-27 victory home victory over Montana State-Northern in Billings, Mont.
Peters, who did not throw an interception, finished with a completion percentage of .851.
Peters, who played at Saddleback and Santa Ana community colleges, then made a brief stop at Grand Valley State before landing at Rocky Mountain, leads the nation in total offense per game (420.4 yards) and overall (3,363 yards), as well as passing (3,168 yards).
He ranks second in the NAIA in passing yards per game (396).
Though eight contests, Peters has completed 275 of 414. He has thrown 23 touchdown passes and just five interceptions.
Last season, Peters completed 245 of 394 passes for 2,606 yards and 21 touchdowns, with 10 interceptions.
