Sea creatures made of sand

The results are in for the 48th annual Sandcastle Contest, held Sunday at Corona del Mar State Beach.
Hosted by the Commodores Club of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce, the event packed a crowd of both spectators and builders. This year’s theme was the Magic of Sea Creatures.
Winning the junior division for kids ages 12 and younger was Cub Scout Pack 330’s sculpture of octopus scouts and seaweed.
Team Sand and Deliver took first place in the Most Unique Sandcastle contest for non-masters (nonprofessionals) with their castle and wall design.
The Most Unique Sand Sculpture nonprofessional award went to the Sand Formers for their sculpture of a horse and King Neptune.
The Unstoppable won Most Humorous Creation with their swordfish and mermaid, and the South Coast Primadonnas took the Best Display of Theme award with their Dancing with the Starfish sculpture.
In the professional category, MSA took the Most Unique Sand Sculpture award with their large octopus, crab and shark.
The Commodores Award for Best Overall Creation was given to Who Are Those Guys, who featured a complicated, cartoonish design.
