On Theater: ‘Menopause’ pausing again at Playhouse

Remember “Menopause, the Musical,” which tickled Laguna Playhouse audiences a few years ago? Well, if you missed it then, you can catch it now.
“Now” means right now — the reprise production opened last weekend and will be running through Sept. 27 in what is termed a “special performance” by the “Menopause the Musical” production company and not part of the playhouse’s regular schedule.
The show is set in a department store, where four women of a certain age meet “by chance” at a lingerie sale. The all-female cast makes fun of their woeful hot flashes, forgetfulness, mood swings, wrinkles, night sweats and chocolate binges.
Performances are 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays with 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday matinees. Tickets range from $40 to $70.
Meanwhile, Laguna Beach’s other theatrical company, Gallimaufry Performing Arts, is looking for a few good voices.
The troupe’s musical arm, LagunaTunes Community Chorus, is meeting and rehearsing from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays in the music room of Thurston Middle School, 2100 Park Ave.
“Whether you’re a lifelong singer or never uttered a note, everyone is welcome,” declares Gallimaufry Managing Director Steve Josephson, who describes the songfest as “an eclectic mix of classical, contemporary and jazz tunes.”
Directors of the musical project are Christin Cornell and Roxanna Ward. The culmination of these weekly rehearsals will be a holiday performance scheduled for early December.
Registration is $75, plus a $10 music fee. Call Gallimaufry at (949) 499-5060 for additional information.
