Big weekend swell expected at Wedge
The south swell that was supposed to bring high peaks crashing just off the sand at the Wedge by today has slowed and will likely come in, if at all, by tomorrow, lifeguards said Thursday morning.
The swell is coming from a large storm in Tahiti and was predicted to hit Southern California by today. So far, waves at the Wedge are 3- to 4-feet high, but are expected to steadily grow into the evening and could be up to 8 to 10 feet by today and Saturday, according to Surfline.com.
While the swell will bring high surf for body surfers, its effects can be seen up the coast, with waves pier to pier in Newport expected to be significantly higher than normal.
