UC Irvine junior pitcher Danny Bibona has been named second-team All-American by Baseball America.
The Big West Conference Pitcher of the Year, who earned first-team All-American honors from Collegiate Baseball and was named second-team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Assn., was drafted in the 16th round by the St. Louis Cardinals last week.
The left-hander was 12-1 with a 2.63 earned-run average to help the Anteaters claim the program’s first Big West title. Bibona was 7-0 in conference play and recorded 108 strikeouts in 106 innings. He allowed just 78 hits and foes hit a paltry .208 against him.
He was also named to the all-regional team after striking out a career-high 14 in a 4-2 win over Fresno State.
Bibona helped UCI post a 45-15 record and earn its first No. 1 national ranking.
