LAKEWOOD — Newport Harbor High finished third at Lakewood Golf Course Monday to advance to the CIF Team Final for the first time in the Sailors’ history, Coach Scott Tarnow said.

Junior Travis Russell led the Tars by shooting par 72, followed by teammates Zach Eddy (73), Mychael Clark (75), Erickson Klein (76) and Marcus Kiel (78). Newport Harbor’s team score of 374 trailed only Marina (372) and Mira Costa (373).

Newport earned the last berth in the Team Final, scheduled Thursday at the San Marcos Golf Club.

Cerritos was fourth (375).

CIF South Coast Team

SAN CLEMENTE — Corona del Mar High tied for third, but lost a three-way tiebreaker and did not advance Monday at Talega Golf Club.

The Sea Kings shot 377 to tie with Foothill and Dana Hills. The best score by a team’s sixth player was the tiebreaker, won by Foothill, which advances to the Team Final Thursday.

Senior Camden Nicholson shot four-under-par 68 to pace CdM.

Mike Moorhead (72), Brian Mull (73), John Davenport (82), Jonathan Keedy (82) and Josh Starns (82) also scored.

Villa Park (358) and San Clemente (371) also advanced.

RANCHO SANTA

MARGARITA — Led by senior Ryan Knapp’s one-under-par round of 71, the Estancia High boys’ golf team finished eighth Monday at Tijeras Creek Golf Club.

Only the top three teams advanced, led by regional winner Servite (359). The Eagles shot 396.

Also scoring for Estancia were Jake Knapp and Storm Hagen (76), Jordan Young (85) and Ryan Burns (88).

Ryan and Jake Knapp had already qualified for the CIF Individuals Southern Regional, which is Monday at Skylinks Golf Course in Long Beach.

Calvary Chapel 5,

Costa Mesa 3

COSTA MESA — Alex Krohnfeldt was three for three with a two-run home run in the Mustangs’ Orange Coast League game Friday at TeWinkle Park.

Sami Feinstein was two for four for Costa Mesa (13-14, 3-3 in league).

Alosina Skipps had a triple and Vanessa Castro added an RBI single in the sixth.

The Mustangs now wait for the result of league champion Calvary Chapel’s game against Estancia Wednesday. If Calvary Chapel wins, Estancia and Costa Mesa would be both be 3-3 in league and tied for the second CIF Southern Section Division IV playoff spot.

Costa Mesa Coach Marcus Franco said he and Estancia Coach Judd Fryslie have agreed that a potential one-game playoff would take place Friday. The home team for the would-be playoff would be determined by coin flip.
