Anne M. Bowe, born Anna Mae
Torgerson, passed away on April
19, 2009, in Huntington Beach,
California. Born on March 2,
1921, in Ambrose, North Dakota,
Anne was an honors high school
student who went on to study law
and journalism at the University of
Minnesota. While supporting the
armed services by helping to ferry B17s during World War
II, she met and married an Air Force pilot named Colonel
Hugh Bowe, Jr.
Hugh and Anne would later move to Europe for 10
years, and subsequently to New York, before settling in
Newport Beach, California, in 1966. While living in
France and Germany, Anne developed a knowledge and
love of antique furniture and artwork, while at the same
time raising a family abroad. She was also a long-time
member of the Santa Ana Country Club.
Anne enjoyed playing golf, traveling and being a
grandmother. Preceding her in death are her husband,
Hugh, and daughter, Sue Bowe Madding. Anne
is survived by her two sons, Tug and Mark Bowe;
grandchildren John Madding Jr., Pauline Madding,
Gordon Madding and Austin Bowe.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, June 20,
at 10:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Costa Mesa,
California. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
the Alzheimer’s Association.
