Cut-a-Thon at Meleesa The Salon Raises Money For Ugandan Youth
Meleesa The Salon in Huntington Beach hosted a cut-a-thon on March 2, 2009 to raise money for children in Uganda. $1,100.00 was raised over the course of the day and will benefit The Mother Care AIDS Pediatric Axis, an orphanage in Northern Uganda. All funds will go toward the construction of a boys dormitory.
The salon was packed with guests eager to receive services at reduced prices and were treated to food and beverage provided by local businesses. All services were priced between $10-35.00, including haircuts, brow-shaping and manicures.
Salon owner Meleesa Miller says “The event was successful in raising funds and awareness and we will be hosting more cut-a-thons in the future as part of our ongoing fundraising efforts to benefit children in Northern Ugandaâ€.
Last Summer, Meleesa The Salon hosted a benefit event at the Black Bull Chop House that raised $2,500 for Invisible Children, a non-profit that provides education and services to war-afflicted children in Uganda.
