A retrospective on the art and career of John Paul Jones, an instructor, artist and master printmaker at UCLA and UC Irvine, will be on view through April 18 at the Coastline Art Gallery, 10156 Adams Ave.
“Inner States: John Paul Jones and his Circle†includes drawings, paintings, sculpture, and mixed-media pieces; many are Jones’ own creation, but some of the works on view were collaborations with Jones, and others were developed by his students.
“John Paul was not only a kindred soul to generations of art students; he was also an inspiration,†said Thomas Dowling, one of Jones’ former students. “The goal was always to keep working at your art, trust in yourself to do your best and be truthful to your vision.â€
Jones retired in 1990 and died in 1999.
Admission and parking are free. Gallery hours are from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, except for during the school’s spring break from April 2 to 4. Call (714) 963-8475 or visit coastline.edu/artgallery.
