NEWPORT BEACH — Junior Kaleigh Gilchrist recorded 10 goals Friday, helping the Sailors get past the first two rounds and reach the semifinals of the CIF Southern Section Masters girls’ water polo tournament.
Newport Harbor (25-7) faces Laguna Beach, the recent Division II champion, today at El Toro High at 2 p.m. The Sailors reached the semifinals of the Division I playoffs.
Gilchrist scored seven goals, including two five-meter penalty shots against Riverside Poly in the quarterfinals.
Kate Klippert combined for eight goals, five coming in the opening round against Los Osos of Rancho Cucamonga.

LAKE FOREST — The Sea Kings easily won their first two games Friday and advanced to the semifinals of the CIF Southern Section Masters girls’ water polo tournament.
Corona del Mar (31-2) will play Foothill today at El Toro High at 1 p.m.

COSTA MESA — Junior starter Kira Mitani struck out six batters and gave up one hit and no walks in the Mustangs’ season opener Friday.
Alosina Skipps went three for four with two doubles and three runs batted in. Alex Krohnfeldt went two for four with a double.
Costa Mesa plays host to the Costa Mesa Tournament today. Twenty teams are participating, including Estancia, Corona del Mar, Newport Harbor and Sage Hill School, in the two-day event. Games will be played today and on March 14 at both Costa Mesa High and TeWinkle Park.

P.J. Maloney had a two-out, two-run single in the first inning.
Costa Mesa plays host to Warren of Downey in a pool-play game today at noon.

CORONA DEL MAR — Senior Michael Bloom went one for three with two runs batted as the Sea Kings opened the season Friday in a Foothill Bracket pool-play game at the Newport Elks Tournament.
Bloom singled in two runs on a single in the bottom of the sixth to break up Northwood’s shutout bid.

RIVERSIDE — Junior Jacob McCann led off with a triple and scored the Sailors’ lone run in a Lerner Bracket pool-play game at the Newport Elks Tournament Friday.
Austin Wobrock had Newport Harbor’s other hit, a single in the sixth inning against Patriot, ranked No. 4 in the CIF Southern Section Division IV coaches’ preseason poll.
Newport Harbor (0-1) has another tough pool-play game today at 10 a.m. against visiting Mater Dei, which is ranked No. 1 in Division I.

IRVINE — Sage Hill won its first two pool-play matches, topping St. Paul, 25-10, 25-11, then handling Pacifica of Garden Grove, 25-19, 25-23, Friday at University High.
Senior Bayle Smith had 11 kills and five aces to pace the Lightning against St. Paul. He added seven aces against Pacifica, a match in which senior Harlon Webster had 10 kills.
Pool play continues today.

NEWPORT BEACH — Greg Berchtold, Troy Astorino and Alex Koeberle each won in singles action for Sage Hill at the seventh annual Lightning Invitational at Balboa Bay Club Racquet Club Friday.
Sage Hill played Cerritos, the defending CIF Southern Section Division IV champion.

COSTA MESA — Junior Frankie Gonzalez won two individual events and contributed to two relay victories to pace the Eagles in the nonleague season-opening dual meet Friday.
Sophomores Asher Twardowski and Conner Graham also won two individual races to each for Estancia.
Wes Barloon won the 100-yard butterfly, was second in the 200 individual medley and was on two victorious relay efforts.
