Kiwanis Donates HB History Books!
The Kiwanis Foundation of Huntington Beach has donated copies of the book Century of Service, A History of Huntington Beach to the Huntington Beach Library. Written by Mike Heywood, the book honors the many men and women who have served the city over the past hundred years since the town was incorporated. Published as a fund raiser to support the charitable activities of Kiwanis members throughout the city, the book includes an informative history of the city’s founders, and of the various service clubs who have helped make the community a great place to live and raise a family. The text also highlights the various religious congregations in the town including the First Christian Church and the United Community Methodist Church that were in the area even before incorporation. It also provides a historical perspective on Ocean View School which was started when U. S. Grant was the president!
“Now the book will be avialable for loan at the city’s various library branches,†said Kiwanis President Jeanne Hexem. “If people want to obtain their own copy they can learn how at www.hbkiwanis.org .â€
