A 22-year-old Costa Mesa woman died after a Jeep struck her as she was standing in a traffic lane after a car accident on the 60 Freeway in Los Angeles County on Friday.
The woman was headed eastbound on the 60 Freeway just east of Grand Avenue in Diamond Bar about 3:30 p.m. when the 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe she was driving struck the center divider, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
The crash flipped the Hyundai onto its side, blocking the carpool lane, where a second car, a 2007 Toyota Yaris, smashed into it, according to the report. The Costa Mesa woman was standing in a traffic lane outside of her car after the wreck when a Jeep Liberty struck her.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office withheld the Costa Mesa woman’s name on Saturday, pending the notification of her family.
The driver of the Toyota, a 23-year-old Ontario woman, sustained major injuries in the crash and was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital.
A passenger in the Toyota, a 22-year-old Chino woman, and the Jeep driver, a 55-year-old National City woman, received minor injuries.
