The city will commemorate its 100th birthday with a ceremony at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Pier Plaza.
At the event, items of importance to the city’s history will be placed in a time capsule, which will be buried at City Hall later this year.
Postmaster Richard Samaniego will introduce a special centennial postmark available at the ceremony or at Huntington Beach post office locations.
After the ceremony, the City Council will sign an official proclamation that will be placed in the time capsule.
The pictorial postmark will be offered at the Huntington Beach Main Post Office at 6771 Warner Ave., and the Beach Center Station at Main Street and Olive Avenue.
To obtain the postmark, present an envelope, postcard or other item that can hold an ink impression and has First Class postage affixed to it. The free hand-back postmarking service is limited to 50 items per customer.
Alternately, send self-addressed items to be postmarked, with First Class postage affixed, in a larger envelope to Special Centennial Postmark, c/o Postmaster, 6771 Warner Ave. Huntington Beach, CA 92647-9998. The postmark will be available by mail for 30 days.
