Harlem Globetrotters’ Eugene “Wildkat” Edgerson and Wun “The Shot” Versher will visit the Newport Sports Museum from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The players will donate a Globetrotters autographed ball to the museum while also making an interactive presentation for local youths.
The players will incorporate the team’s signature ball-handling skills into a motivational presentation encouraging kids from the Westside Boys & Girls Club to commit to regular physical activity.
The presentation is part of a national partnership with the U.S. Department of Education and the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.
The Newport Sports Museum motivates and inspires kids to become productive, confident, successful adults through the use of sports and athletics. With the ultimate goal of keeping kids in school, out of gangs and off drugs, the museum facilitates programs designed to teach kids the importance of teamwork, leadership, discipline and commitment.
The Globetrotters are scheduled to play games at 1 and 7 p.m. Saturday at the Honda Center in Anaheim, as well as 1 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
