POLICE FILES: Man charged with impersonating a police officer

Police received a call about a white Suburban that appeared to be using police lights, a PA system and a siren at Goldenwest Street and Heil Avenue at 1:31 a.m. Sunday. Police units intercepted the vehicle and charged the driver with impersonating a police officer and possession of body armor. The latter is illegal after someone is convicted of a violent felony.

AREA 1

Bryant Drive: A woman said she discovered that her credit card was used to make illegal withdrawals from her account on the 8400 block at 10:22 a.m. Sunday.

Warner Avenue: Two callers reported raw sewage was leaking into the street on the 5100 block beginning at 10:33 a.m. Sunday.

Beach Boulevard: Three men were seen peering into vehicles and trying door handles on the 16800 block at 11:04 a.m. Sunday.

Pacific Coast Highway: Two employees at a Chinese restaurant engaged in mutual combat on the 16400 block at 12:50 p.m. Sunday. Neither party wanted to press charges.

McFadden Avenue: People were seen trying to steal a duck from a park on the 6900 block at 4:36 p.m. Sunday.

Minoru Lane and Saru Circle: A group of people were reported for loitering in the alley all day, drinking and urinating, at 6:35 p.m. Sunday.

AREA 2

Ellis Avenue at Beach Boulevard: A caller reported someone in a van with Washington state plates was following them at 12:38 a.m. Sunday. Police were unable to locate either the caller or the van.

Setting Sun Drive: A caller was concerned that someone was trying to break into her house or a neighbor’s house after hearing suspicious noises on the 6400 block at 2:37 a.m. Sunday. The noises turned out to be people setting up for the Surf City USA Marathon.

Koledo Lane: A woman said she discovered that her credit card was used to make illegal withdrawals from her account on the 17300 block at 9:26 a.m. Sunday.

Edwards Street at Ellis Avenue: Someone observed four male teenagers setting off fireworks near the Urban Forest at 11:43 a.m. Sunday.

Bell Circle: About 20 people were seen fighting in the street, then began breaking bottles inside a residence, on the 17900 block at 5:23 p.m. Sunday. The group said it was mutual combat over the Super Bowl; neither side wished to file a police report.

AREA 3

11th Street at Pacific Coast Highway: A caller reported that they saw a man who was walking his dog beat and kick an animal at 10:41 a.m. Sunday.

Pacific Coast Highway at Beach Boulevard: A caller said two dogs were locked inside a hot vehicle at 1:35 p.m. Sunday.

Pacific Coast Highway: A BMW convertible was reportedly burglarized overnight on the 900 block at 2:35 p.m. Sunday.

Lake Street and Crest Avenue: A caller complained that their neighbors were playing a beer pong-like game in their front yard at 3:02 p.m. Sunday. The caller said the activity was “probably illegal.”

Clay Avenue at Florida Street: A caller said a bicyclist repeatedly fell into the street at 3:52 p.m. Sunday.

Atlanta Avenue at Beach Boulevard: Several people were seen fighting in a strip mall at 5:31 p.m. Sunday.

Clay Avenue: A caller said their home was broken into, with a plasma television, laptop and PS3 stolen, on the 600 block at 5:55 p.m. Sunday. Police found a pair of sunglasses at the scene of the crime with fingerprints on them.

AREA 4

Brookbay Circle: A woman said her boyfriend broke a chair during a fight earlier and requested police assistance, but didn’t answer the door and turned off the lights when police arrived on the 9700 block at 1:38 a.m. Sunday.

Brookhurst Street and Bushard Street: A vehicle drove into and destroyed the gate of a sewage treatment center at 4:48 a.m. Sunday.

Estuary Lane: Two vehicles’ tires were found flattened, either by slashing or by the air being let out, on the 19800 block at 7:21 a.m. Sunday.

Salt Air Circle: A purse was found in a front yard on the 20600 block at 7:36 a.m. Sunday. Several vehicle burglaries occurred on the street overnight.

Carmania Lane: Someone called to say a white vehicle with a walking cane in the front seat had been parked in the same location for five days, and they were afraid an elderly person with dementia walked away from the car or that there might be “a dead body in the trunk,” on the 19700 block at 9:34 a.m. The vehicle belonged to a neighbor’s in-laws, who were out of town.

Salt Air Circle: A third vehicle was reported burglarized overnight on this street, on the 20600 block at 10:37 a.m. Sunday.

Magnolia Street: A man said he discovered that his credit card was used to make illegal withdrawals from his account on the 20200 block at 10:54 a.m. Sunday.

Magnolia Street: Someone called to report that a Toyota’s window had been smashed on the 21400 block at 11:42 a.m. Sunday.

Brookhurst Street at Banning Avenue: A bike was stolen from a man on a bike trail at 3:03 p.m. Sunday.

Brookhurst Street: A group of men began beating someone’s vehicle, and breaking its windows with bottles, on the 21500 block at 5:31 p.m. Sunday.

Adams Avenue: A man was seen sitting in a vehicle watching female employees using binoculars on the 9000 block at 5:37 p.m. Sunday.

AREA 5

La Dona Court: Petty theft was reported on the 8900 block at 8:29 a.m. Saturday.

Talbert Avenue: A vehicle burglary was reported at a fitness center on the 10100 block at 10:14 a.m. Saturday.

AREA 6

Brookhurst Street: Police took a call about a domestic dispute at a fast food restaurant on the 16100 block at 2:08 p.m. Sunday.

Newhope Street: A shoplifter was taken into custody at a warehouse store on the 17900 block at 4:31 p.m. Sunday.
