Businesses and government offices around Newport-Mesa will close Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
King’s 80th birthday was Thursday, but the holiday always falls on the third Monday in January.
Both city halls will be closed along with all post offices and the DMV branch on 19th Street. Courts and banks will be closed.
Students at all Newport Mesa Unified School District schools will not have to go to class Monday, and OCC, UCI and Vanguard colleges will be closed.
The police stations will remain open. Trash will be picked up at the regular time in both cities, but street sweeping will be canceled.
