Season comes to rough ending for Laguna

The season has come to an end for the Laguna Beach High football team.
Going where no Laguna squad has gone in the last 21 years, the Breakers saw their CIF Southern Section Southern Division playoff run halted in the second round by Corona del Mar, which scored a 41-0 victory last Friday at Guyer Field.
The Sea Kings took a 7-0 lead after one quarter then put the game away by outscoring Laguna, 21-0, in the second quarter
It was Laguna’s second loss of the season to the Sea Kings, who also scored a shutout 37-0 victory on Sept. 12.
Corona del Mar clamped down on the Breakers’ run game and blanketed Laguna’s leading receiver Chris Paul with double coverage. The sophomore, who set a school record with four touchdown receptions the week before, was limited to two catches for 13 yards. Quarterback Austin Paxson was eight of 21 for 75 yards, threw a pair of interceptions and was sacked twice.
Laguna, which opened the playoffs on Nov. 20 with a 39-14 road win over Santa Ana at Santa Ana Bowl, finished the year 5-7 overall.
The win over Santa Ana was the school’s first victory in postseason play since 1987 and first road playoff win since 1968.
