MAILBAG: Majority had its say on marriage

One question “” why did we vote?

Best I can tell, we voted as we do for anything else (i.e. like voting for a president) to determine the will of the people, and the will of the people was made clear. In the voting process, whether you like it or not, the side with the most votes wins.

If the Proposition 8 protesters had not noticed, you don’t see the 46% of Americans who didn’t get their choice for president protesting, even if they truly, in their hearts, believed McCain was the right choice. They will now plan and proceed with their goals for 2012, as should the Proposition 8 protesters.

There will be another vote, plan accordingly. Whatever your plan was, it didn’t work. So like anyone, any business, any effort that has failed, create a new plan that might help you achieve your goals in the future.

The thing that hurts your effort more than anything is your hypocritical approach to everything. This “horrifying passage” is horrifying in your opinion.

However, the majority of people voted for it because that is what they believe, which is just as important and valid as what you believe.

Unfortunately in your zealot approach to things, you violate the exact thing you protest for, the right of choice and to exercise that right and have it upheld in a court of law. The majority of people chose to support upholding their definition of marriage, not yours. That should be respected, just as if Proposition 8 had not passed. Either way, a vote’s a vote, like it or not.

Bottom line, “protesting your way to a victory” and beating into submission those businesses, individuals, churches, who voted as they believed is not the way to achieve your goals. In fact, it is the ultimate hypocritical move.

As much as you all want to be respected for your rights, voters want to be respected for their right to vote, and have those votes mean something by being upheld. At least until the next election.

Church should spend money on kids

In Laguna, people voted 68% no on Proposition 8 “” the constitutional amendment that says marriage can only be between a man and a woman.

Yes on 8 won because the 12 old men who run the so-called Church of Latter Day Saints told their followers across the USA that they would be blessed if they gave to the “Yes on 8” in California, Arizona and Florida, and give they did, $22 million dollars in California alone “” 80% of the Yes on 8 funds.

If they find out you are “gay” in the Mormon church, they try to reprogram you into a heterosexual and if they are worried about children from same-sex marriages, they should know these children are as well adjusted and loved as those from heterosexual families and turn out gay the same as in the general population.

I propose the church spend another $22 million on children in California who have AIDS, malnutrition and life-threatening diseases since they are part of the 25,000 children on the planet who die every day.

‘Faith political lobby’ raises tax issue

Well, it’s obvious now that there is a faith political lobby.

Out-of-state sectarian groups, using their followers’ tithings, spread misinformation about Proposition 8 to influence voters on a secular social issue to codify their dogma.

I wouldn’t be surprised if one of the out-of-state political lobbies submits, in their own state, a proposition defining marriage as between a man and at least one woman.

Now that they’ve sullied their faiths by getting involved in the political arena, they qualify to pay taxes on their properties and incomes, no?

You know, render unto Caesar.

Seeing post-election hypocrisy

Isn’t it amazing how suddenly so many letters and editorials from Democrats appear saying “now” we must all work together to save the country, solve all the problems, etc., when for the last eight years these same Democrats have done everything possible to destroy everything the president or the Republicans have tried to accomplish for the country.

They have never stopped personal attacks belittling President Bush and Vice President Cheney.

They have done everything possible to aid and abet our enemies and our war on terrorists by tying the hands of the military and our CIA and FBI.

Now the Democrats suddenly want to appear to be patriots and have real patriots work with them to socialize the country.

Hypocrites in action.
