Rustlers continue to roll, earn season’s first shutout
The Golden West College football team picked up its fourth victory in American Mountain Conference play Saturday by defeating Mt. San Jactino, 30-0, at Orange Coast College.
By recording their first shutout of the season, the Rustlers improved to 4-1 in conference and 5-3 overall.
Golden West led by just seven points at the half against Mt. San Jactino (1-4, 1-7) but scored 16 points in the third quarter to pull away. Marc Thomas and Anthony Carlisle each rushed for a touchdown, Michael VanDeripe threw touchdown passes to Mike Manuel and Brandon Grissom and Eric Torres had a 27-yard field goal.
VanDeripe completed 19 of 28 passes for 190 yards without an interception. Anthony Giambona and Jordare Lewis each had an interception for the Rustlers.
Golden West, which has won three straight conference games since an overtime loss to Victor Valley on Oct. 4, continues conference play at 6 p.m. Saturday at San Bernardino Valley.
