CORONA DEL MAR — The Sea Kings won their 10th straight Pacific Coast League championship Wednesday. They were co-champions in 2003, but were the outright champs in all other years since 1999.

Chase Watson, Lucas Reynolds and Michael Liao scored three goals each and goalie Isle Anderson recorded three saves for CdM (16-9, 5-0 in league), ranked No. 5 in CIF Southern Section Division I.

NEWPORT BEACH — Jack Yeager scored four goals in the Sailors’ Sunset League finale Wednesday.

Zach Lucas contributed four steals, three goals and three assists for Harbor (20-6, 5-1 in league), which finished second in the Sunset and is ranked No. 3 in CIF Southern Section Division I.

COSTA MESA — Senior two-meter player Dustin Serrano finished with eight goals and his twin brother Cody had six goals, helping the Mustangs in their regular-season finale Wednesday.

Dustin has 100 goals and Cody 101 goals for the season. Travis Wright finished with a season-high three goals for Costa Mesa (18-10), ranked No. 9 in the CIF Southern Section Division III poll.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Pacific Coast League finals

IRVINE – Corona del Mar High junior Melissa Matsuoka remained undefeated and advanced to today’s singles title match Wednesday at Beckman High.

The Sea Kings also have two doubles teams in the championship match. The five CdM girls have also advanced to the CIF Individual tournament Nov. 22. Matsuoka, who was 20-0 during the regular season, defeated Jocelyn Lu of Laguna Hills, 6-1, 6-3. Matsuoka, ranked No. 17 in the USTA Southern California girls’ 16s singles rankings, will face Beckman’s Megan Heneghan, who is also undefeated, today at 2:30 p.m. at Beckman for the PCL title.

Heneghan is ranked No. 13 in the USTA So Cal rankings for girls’ 16s. She beat Arianna Mokhtari of Laguna Hills, 6-0, 6-0, in the other semifinal.

The all-CdM doubles final will feature Danielle Kaiden and Lindsay Zotovich against Karen Ishii and Kelli Feeley at 2:30 p.m.

Kaiden and Zotovich improved to 45-0 with a 6-2, 6-4 win over University’s Kira Scott and Megan Miller in the semifinals. Ishii and Feeley scored a 6-0, 4-6, 7-6 (4) win to get past their teammates Paige Polizois and Katelyn Nguyen in the other semifinal. Ishii and Feeley are 45-1.

 

Sunset League finals

SEAL BEACH — Newport Harbor’s Natalie Small and Jeanne Frei advanced to today’s semifinals after two wins Wednesday at Seal Beach Tennis Center.

Small and Frei, the No. 2-seeded team, will face Melanie Abella and Thanh Doan, the No. 3-seeded tandem from Esperanza, in a semifinal at 1 p.m.

Small and Frei opened the tournament with an 8-1 win over an Edison duo and then took out a Los Alamitos team, 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.

Newport Harbor’s Alex Aiello and Riley Mathies lost to Abella and Doan in the quarterfinals, 2-6, 0-6.

The Sailors’ Liz Cramer and Cynthia Waterman both reached the quarterfinals in singles before being eliminated. Senior Nelly Radeva, the Sailors’ top singles player, did not compete because she is playing in an individual tournament out of town, Harbor Coach Kristen Case said.

 

Academy League finals

NEWPORT BEACH — Sage Hill’s Julia Blakeley and Jaclyn Smrecek advanced to today’s semifinals at the Balboa Bay Club Racquet Club.

Blakely, who has not lost a set or game in league play, will face St. Margaret’s Melanie Hess. Smrecek will play against Tiffany Cheng, also of the Tartans, in the other semifinal.

In doubles, Sage Hill’s Isa-Maria Taskinen and Rian Billingsley, as well as Devyn Billingsley and Dominique Moore will also play in separate semifinals today.

 

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Calvary Chapel def.

Estancia

COSTA MESA — Estancia senior Annie Tomasek had a match-high 20 kills and five solo blocks, but Calvary Chapel won the Orange Coast League finale, 26-24, 25-23, 19-25, 25-19, on Wednesday at Estancia High.

Both teams finished 5-3 in league, tied for second, but Estancia Coach Jim Huffman said his team will be the league’s No. 2 CIF representative. Estancia and Calvary Chapel split their league matches and each went four games, but Estancia scored more overall points in the two matches. Taryn Patton had 11 kills for Estancia (18-7), and Shona Lamb had 40 assists.

Maddie Baird had 16 kills for Calvary (20-12).

Estancia now waits for its first-round matchup in the CIF Southern Section Division I-AA playoffs, to be announced Sunday.
