WEEKLY ROUNDUP:

Golden West took advantage of two second-half turnovers and scored 21 unanswered points that spurred the Rustlers to a 45-20 victory over Compton in an American Mountain Conference football game Saturday.

Michael Vanderipe threw two touchdowns to Brandon Grissom in the third quarter, as Golden West improved its conference record to 3-1 and 4-3 overall.

Vanderipe also threw a touchdown pass to Raphael Enriquez and completed 14 of 24 passes for 254 yards and four touchdowns. Grissom, who finished with three touchdown receptions, had six catches for 191 yards, including a 77-yard touchdown grab in the third quarter.

Raphael Enriquez had a touchdown reception, Mike Manuel rushed for a score, linebacker Preston Margain scooped up a backward pass and returned it 26 yards for a touchdown and Ocean View High grad Dana Maley kicked a 27-yard field goal for the game’s final points.

Golden West will host Mt. San Jacinto in conference play at 6 p.m. Saturday at Orange Coast College.

Women’s Water Polo

Golden West led from start to finish Friday and went on to dispose of Orange Coast, 7-2, in Orange Empire Conference action.

Kamaile Maahuna’alii scored three goals, Sam Garcia scored twice and Gloria Banda and Amber McCall each scored once for the Rustlers, who improved to 11-14 overall.

Women’s Soccer

Brittney Whittemore scored both Golden West goals, one in each half, as the Rustlers shut out Irvine Valley, 2-0, in conference play.

Brittany Woodward and Courtney Kolovos each had an assist. Nichole Adams and Veronica Helguerra each tended goal for 45 minutes, with Adams registering three saves and Helguerra two.

Men’s Soccer

Fullerton scored a pair of first-half goals on Golden West and made them stand in a 2-0 conference victory over the Rustlers. Brent Reis had four saves and Luis Guerrero added three saves for the Rustlers, who fell to 4-8-3 overall.

? High School Girls’ Tennis

Huntington Beach picked up another victory in Sea View League play by defeating host Foothill, 11-7, on Thursday.

Junior Roxy Galich swept at No. 2 singles for the Oilers with 7-6, 6-1, 6-0 wins.
