PET OF THE WEEK

The black-and-white, six-month-old kitten named Sabina (pictured) took turns wearing the pirate hat as volunteers from Ensign Intermediate School enjoyed decorating the cages and kitties for Halloween. The children earn community service hours while helping animals find homes at Fashion Island to satisfy requirements for their Life Skills class taught by Katie Halperin.
There is a Halloween candy basket used to suggest donations to support local animals, but the kids can’t resist eating it themselves.
You can see animals up for adoption from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in front of Russo’s Pet Experience at Fashion Island in Newport Beach, or take a look at the pets available at the Community Animal Network’s at animalnetwork.org.
The organization is also asking for help to raise money for the care of a cat, Sampson, who was recently rescued. Sampson suffers from diabetic ketoacidosis, according to his caretakers. The group is seeking to raise $1,800.
Volunteers may send checks payable to Community Animal Network, P.O. Box 8662, Newport Beach, CA., 92658, and memo the check with the nonprofit tax ID 33-0971560.
