COMMUNITY & CLUBS: New radio station in town rocks

With KFWB-AM (980) and KNX-AM (1070) closing their Orange County news bureaus and KDOC dropping their two-hour morning news program, about the only place on the air you can get Orange County News is on “Real Orange” on KOCE-TV weekday evenings. It remains a valuable asset to the county.

Most people are not aware, but there is a new radio station serving the Harbor area. It is classic rock KOCI-FM (101.5), according to Don Fuschetti, the station’s promotions and sales manager. The station broadcasts out of offices on 17th Street in Costa Mesa, and the signal can be picked up in South Laguna, Irvine, Fullerton, Orange to Katella Avenue, in Huntington Beach to Warner Avenue until it can increase the signal, according to Fuschetti. For more information on KOCI visit www.kociradio.com.

CANNERY OFFERS FIFTH HOT STOVE LEAGUE SERIES

The Cannery Restaurant in Newport Beach has a series of dinners coming up beginning Nov. 11 called the “Hot Stove League.” The first guest speaker will be Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Seaver, with former Dodger Tommy Davis speaking Dec. 2. The last two guests are to be determined. All proceeds from these dinners go to the Angels Baseball Foundation for inner-city youth baseball leagues in Southern California. The series of dinners is $700. However, if someone wants to attend a single dinner it is $200, according to Andrea Lopez. The series is limited to 50 participants, and reservations can be made by calling Lopez at (949) 673-0777 or by e-mail to [email protected].

MEET THE COSTA MESA CANDIDATES

The public is invited to attend and meet the Costa Mesa City Council candidates from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, 2850 Fairview Road, Costa Mesa. Yours truly will serve as the moderator for the nine invited council candidates. A committee chaired by Hank Panian has prepared four questions that will be given to the candidates in advance, and the audience can submit additional questions during the evening.

WORTH REPEATING

Thought for the Day as provided by Greg Kelley of the Newport Mesa Irvine Interfaith Council … “When someone we love is having difficulty and is giving us a bad time, it’s better to explore the cause than to criticize the action.”
