October 3, 2008, at the Irvine Regional Medical Center
Humorous Speech winner: Patty Porto, ACG of Costa Mesa
Evaluation Speech winner: Gary Osterback, CC, CL, of Fountain Valley
Before competing at the division level, both Patti and Garry were the winners of their clubs as well as their respective areas. Patti and Gary will represent Division A (20 clubs) and compete at the district-wide speech contests at the Founder’s District Conference (184 clubs) on November 8, 2008. The public is invited. For more information visit www.foundersdistrict.org
A member of Costa Mesa Communicators Club and representing Area A-1, Patti entertained the audience with her speech entitled “Shopping.” Patti achieved advanced communicator gold (ACG), the highest level under communication track at Toastmasters International.
Gary has been with Smedley Club Number One for over four years. He won last year’s area A-1 contest, although schedule conflict prevented him from divisional competition. Gary achieved competent communicator (CC) and competent leadership (CL) levels and serves as the treasurer for both his club and Division A.
The 2nd place winner is Lee Lance for Humorous Contest and Ryan Siebert for Evaluation Contest. Other contestants include Alberto Gutierrez and Beatriz Camacho.
Beginning in 1924 at the YMCA in Santa Ana, California, Toastmasters International has grown to nearly 235,000 members in 11,700 clubs in 92 countries, offering an effective and enjoyable way to practice and sharpen communication and leadership skills.
