NEWPORT COAST — Junior outside hitter Lindsey Kish had nine kills, six aces and 13 digs to lead the Lightning to a 25-14, 15-25, 25-23, 24-26, 17-15 Academy League victory Tuesday night.
Junior opposite Madison Gordon-Lavee had 10 kills and three aces, while freshman outside hitter Natasha Sakraney had six kills and seven digs for the Lightning (8-10, 2-0 in league), ranked No. 5 in CIF Southern Section Division IV-AA.
Junior setter Hana Hunt had 42 assists and helped Sage Hill rally from a 13-10 deficit in the fifth game.

NEWPORT BEACH — Junior middle blocker Katey Thompson recorded 12 kills and four blocks to lead the Sailors to a 25-16, 19-25, 25-22, 25-15 Sunset League victory Tuesday.
Kirby Burnham had nine kills and one block for Newport Harbor (13-4, 2-1 in league), ranked No. 7 in the CIF Southern Section Division I-AA coaches’ poll.
Arielle Lysacek finished with 14 assists, seven kills and two blocks. Jennifer Palmquist six blocks and four kills.
Mary Buckingham had six kills.

Costa Mesa
COSTA MESA — Kim Bjelland led the Mustangs with 12 assists against the Eagles, who won the Orange Coast League match, 25-16, 25-14, 23-25, 25-12 at Costa Mesa Tuesday.
Breanna Dorame added 10 assists, Julianne Judkins had six kils and Dana Gentling finished with 11 digs for Costa Mesa (1-2 in league).

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Junior Lauren Draganza shot even-par 36 to earn medalist honors and help keep the Sailors undefeated after the Sunset League match at Meadowlark Golf Course Tuesday.
Tiffany Kane and Ali Thomas both shot 44, while Morgan Moody and Lindsey Hanna each carded a 46 to contribute to the win for the Sailors (14-0, 6-0 in league). Draganza collected two birdies in the best round of the day.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Ashley Peters earned medalist honors with a seven-over-par 43 for the Eagles in the Orange Coast League match at Meadowlark Golf Course Tuesday.
Kim Haycraft (45), Nushin Tasbihchi (50), Jeana de Arakal (51), Jackie Crosson (52) also contributed to the win for the Eagles (12-3, 6-1 in league).

IRVINE — Ashley Varner shot a six-over-par 42 for the Sea Kings in a Pacific Coast League match at Rancho San Joaquin Golf Course Tuesday.
Amanda Johnson and Tess Crane each finished at 45 for CdM (7-7, 4-3 in league).
Hyebin Hong finished with a 47 and Kelly Moorhead a 49.
Irvine’s Ani Gulugian shot a 34 to earn medalist honors.

COSTA MESA — Senior Ellie Edles won 18 of 18 games for Estancia in its Orange Coast League match at Costa Mesa Tennis Center Tuesday.
Kendra Fisher also swept in singles, dropping just four games for Estancia (9-4, 3-1 in league).
Calvary Chapel dropped to 7-6, 2-2.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — Julia Blakeley, Jaclyn Srecek and Devyn Billingsley each won 18 of 18 games in singles for the Lightning in their Academy League match Tuesday.
Sage Hill (2-8, 0-3 in league), ranked No. 2 in CIF Division IV, also swept in doubles, dropping just six games.

COSTA MESA — The Mustangs dropped to 1-3 overall and in league after being swept by the Breakers in Orange Coast League action at Costa Mesa Tuesday.

SURFING
Newport Harbor High, defending South Coast League co-champion, opened the season beating league foes Laguna Beach, 101-67, and Dana Hills, 103-65.
Against Dana Hills, the short board squad won all four heats. The 57-27 win was the second for the season for the short board squad. First-place finishers Erik Heimstaedt, Jared Cassidy and Victor Done repeated their performance from the prior week in taking first place.
Chase Wilson finished in first place in the last heat with an average wave score of 5.9, tops for the short boarders. Taking second place for the Sailors were Mark Contreras, Canon Call, Bobby Okvist and Max Colvin. Third place finishers for Newport were Ian Sequeira and Alex Maddox.
The boys’ long board squad won for the second time this season, 12-9. The team was led by first-place finisher Andy Delorme with a meet high average wave score of 6.7. This was the second contest that Delorme has placed first in the long board competition.
Aaron Cervantes placed third for the long board squad.
The girls’ short board squad won for the second time this season, 12-9. The team was lead by first-place finisher Kaleigh Gilchrist. This was the second contest the Team USA rider has placed first in the girls’ short board competition.
First-year surfer Shelby Detmers placed third for the long board squad.
The girls’ long board squad improved its season record to 2-0 with a 12-9 victory. This squad lost three key long boarders to graduation.
For the second week in a row, Devyn Hartnett, Gilchrist and newcomer Ali Hayes place second, third and fourth respectively.
The body board squad lost, 10-11, as Joe Suzuki placed second for the Sailors.
The next meet is at T Street on Oct. 22 against league co-champion San Clemente.
