May-Treanor, Gibb both capture titles by the Bay

SAN FRANCISCO — Newport Harbor High product Misty May-Treanor and Costa Mesa resident Jake Gibb teamed with their partners to win the women’s and men’s titles, respectively, at the Assn. of Volleyball Professionals’ Crocs Tour event completed Sunday.
May-Treanor and partner Kerri Walsh, the No. 1 seeds, topped Nicole Branaugh and Elaine Youngs, 21-16, 21-12, in the title match. The two-time Olympic gold medalists just got past Newport Harbor alumna April Ross and partner Jennifer Boss, 21-12, 17-21, 16-14, in the semifinals.
Gibb and partner Sean Rosenthal upset top-seeded Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers, 11-21, 21-19, 15-13, in an 81-minute final. The No. 3 seeds split the $20,000 first prize.
May-Treanor and Walsh also split $20,000 for their victory.
Ross and Boss shared $10,500 after finishing third.
The tour continues at Manhattan Beach, with action running Friday through Sunday.
