LOCALS MOVE ON

SAN FRANCISCO — Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh, the two-time Olympic gold-winning duo, advanced to today’s third round of the Assn of Volleyball Professionals San Francisco Friday.

May-Treanor, a Newport Harbor High product, and Walsh, the top seeds, defeated Carrie Dodd and Tatiana Minello, the eighth seeds, 21-16, 21-19, in the second round. May-Treanor and Walsh had a first-round bye.

April Ross, also a former Newport Harbor standout, and Jennifer Boss, the No. 2 seeds will face No. 7 seeds Dianne DeNecochea and Barbra Fontana for the right to move on to the third round.

On the men’s side, Costa Mesa resident Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal, the No. 3 seeds advanced to today’s third round with a tough 19-21, 21-18, 15-10 win over Matt Olson and Kevin Wong, the sixth seeds.
