An 86-year-old Huntington Beach man is in the hospital in critical condition after being hit by a sport utility vehicle Tuesday as he rode his bicycle the wrong way in the bike lane.
A 76-year-old man driving a Honda Pilot made a right turn from Gothard Street onto Main Street traffic about 4:15 p.m. and struck the man on the bicycle, officer Dennis Fulton of the Huntington Beach police said.
The bicycle rider suffered head injuries and broken bones, and was rushed to UCI Medical Center in Orange. He is in critical condition in intensive care, Fulton said.
Police have not released the names of the men. There is no evidence of excessive speed or driving under the influence, Fulton added. Witnesses are asked to call Fulton at (714) 535-5670.
