SURFING SOAPBOX: Council needs ‘new blood’
Last week I noticed an advertisement from a current City Council member running again.
For a split second I thought to myself, wow, look at that — a council member actually engaging our community in what’s happening in our town. But then I realized it was nothing more than the beginning of her cheesy reelection campaign. I couldn’t help but think what a shame, all this time I had never read anything she had written before of her individual outlook on our town.
But here we are and here she was at the beginning of the reelection season reaching out as if she cared. Why not before? Why only now?
Maybe for no other reason than the almighty vote.
The advertisement rambled on about the same topics that have been floating around for decades now and still have not come to fruition.
You know, like the same old parking problems and the one I really love — the “village entrance†or whatever that might be.
But at least we have a sister city in France, right?
Personally, I think our council is more like a Tuesday night bridge game than a council meeting. You’re telling me that after four years on City Council, this council member would put out an advertisement asking the community’s help in finding solutions for our parking problems? The “village entrance?â€
After four years on City Council, you still don’t know what the people want?
How about taking a stance to finally get our lifeguards the headquarters they so desperately need?
What we need is some new blood.
We need someone who truly cares, who supports our local businesses and our emergency services, our green belts and our ocean.
We need someone willing to pick up a shovel.
Peace.
